Banteay Chmar Temple (1day)

 

(Starting in Siem Reap) Drive 170km from Siem Reap to reach Banteay Chhmar, a largely un-restored, sprawling monastic temple in Banteay Meanchey province near the Thai border. The temple was constructed in late 12th- early 13th century and was dedicated to the son of king Jayavarman VII, who died fighting Champa. Face towers and amazingly well-preserved bas-reliefs depict some of the highlights of the Khmer-Cham battles. Drive back to Siem Reap in the evening.

Overland trip (starting in Siem Reap). Drive 2hs 30mns to reach Battambang-the second largest French colonial architecture. Visits Phnom Sampov, a mountain steeped in legends, topped by Wat Sampov and a group of caves used as killing caves by the Khmer Rouge. These caves still contain the skeletal remains of their victims, and the view is spectacular. Climb up Phnom Banan Hill (337 steps, 80m high), you will reach the 11th century temple of five towers arranged in the quincunx. The mountaintop is a peaceful location with stunning views of the surrounding plains. End the day with Bamboo Train ride and you will drive back to Siem Reap.

Bird Watching at Prek Toal or Angtrapeang Thmor (1Day)

This special program showcases the highlights of Cambodia- Phnom Penh, once called The Pearl of South-East Asia, all major Angkor temples & Battambang-the second biggest French colonial town.

 

Day 1: Phnom Penh City Tour

The capital city of Cambodia, once called the Pearl of South-East Asia.

Morning: Visit Silver pagoda, Royal palace, National museum and Wat Phnom pagoda. 

Afternoon:Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, mass graves at Choeung Ek “killing fields”, Russian market (TuolTum pung market) or Central market.

Day 2: Phnom Penh–Battambang

The drive takes 6-7 hours by road and includes the visits to rural provinces of Kandal, Kompong Speu, Kompong Chhnang & Pusat. Among these places, you will visit Oudong, one of the Khmer capitals after Angkor, Kompong Loung, floating village and market & the center of handmade pottery in Kampong Chhnang. Arrive in Battambang and begin a visit to Phnom Banan Hill (80m high) with stunning views of the surrounding plains. End the day with Bamboo Train ride and head back to your hotel in the evening.

Day 3: Battambang- Angkor by boat

Take a private boat from Battambang over the Sangkae River& the Great Lake Tonle Sap to Siem Reap crossing different eco-systems, especially interesting during the rainy season August through January. Boat excursion takes about 6-7 hours including visits on the way. You can see stilted houses, schools, churches, shops, and active pagoda and fish farms built on barges and floating platforms. (Lunch box is recommended for today)

Arrive at Chong Khnies and transfer to your selected hotel.

Day 4: Siem Reap- Angkor

Morning, visit Ta Prohm, the jungle temple, made famous by the film Tomb Raider, Angkor Wat, the world’s largest Hindu temple.(Lunch is not included. A variety of good, hygienic restaurants on sites) Afternoon, visit Banteay Samre & Banteay Srei- the most intricately carved of all temples at Angkor.

Day 5: Siem Reap- Angkor
